Antonio Nicodemo, MD
Department of Infectious Diseases, School of Medicine, University of São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil

The management of bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues has been expanded during the last years with the introduction of new drugs including the last generation of fluoroquinolones, such as levofloxacin, which have had their spectrum and pharmacokinetic characteristics improved. The better oral absorption, the possibility of once-daily administration, the low incidence of adverse effects and their wide spectrum has made this group of drugs useful in the treatment of this site of infections.
