The CDCP recommends a b-lactam plus macrolide or antipneumococcal fluoroquinolone for hospitalized CAP patients and the ATS again divides patients into those with or without CPD and modifiers. If these are not present, azithromycin, antipneumococcal fluoroquinolone or doxycycline plus a b-lactam are recommended, while an intravenous b-lactam plus macrolide or doxycycline or an antipneumococcal fluoroquinolone are the preferred options for patients with CPD.
