Results from clinical trials demonstrate that parenteral levofloxacin achieved a comparable clinical success rate compared to ceftriaxone IV and/or cefuroxime axetil with or without erythromycin. In a recent study levofloxacin achieved a 96% clinical success rate compared to 90% for the ceftriaxone regimen, a statistically significant advantage for levofloxacin (p < 0.05). These results were confirmed by another study comparing levofloxacin with ceftriaxone in severe infections, which reported a clinical success rate of 87% for levofloxacin compared to 86% for the alternative regimen.
