It is not reasonable to increase the dose of the other fluoroquinolones because of concern for increasing adverse events. Although both moxifloxacin and gemifloxacin have very good pharmacodynamic parameters when used in their present dosage forms, Noel and colleagues have shown that increasing the moxifloxacin dose to 800 mg results in a significant increase in the QTc (Bazett) interval from baseline (16.34-17.83, p < 0.001), while a dose of levofloxacin 1,000 mg results in only a modest increase (3.53-4.88, p < 0.05) (17).
