There is no evidence-based data regarding antibiotic treatment duration in AECB. Data from several studies in the last few years have demonstrated that in mild to moderate cases, antibiotic treatment can be discontinued when the purulent sputum is resolving. In the most severe cases (GOLD stages III and IV), especially when P. aeruginosa is involved, a duration of 10–14 days appears appropriate.
