Answer 3: Chronic rhinosinusitis: clarifying the definition

Absolutely. In 1998, the National Centers for Health Care Statistics reported that 38 million Americans said they had chronic rhinosinusitis, making it one of the top two diseases in the US. However, not all of these patients have bacterial disease. Some require surgical management; some need treatment for allergies, and only a fraction of these require antibiotics for managing a bacterial infection. By making the diagnosis more specific, clinicians will be able to tailor treatment to individuals and provide more effective, targeted therapy.
