Question 13

Was the shorter course therapy effective compared to the longer 10 day amoxicillin-clavulanate therapy?

Clinical success at the post-therapy visit was 79.2% for the levofloxacin-treated patients compared to 81.7% for the amoxicillin/clavulanate-treated patients. Among the microbiologically-evaluable patients, 5 days of levofloxacin was similar to 10 days of amoxicillin/clavulanate. Patients treated with levofloxacin had a more rapid resolution of their symptoms compared to patients receiving amoxicillin/clavulanate.
