Question 15

Could you comment on the safety profile of levofloxacin compared to other fluoroquinolones as well as other antimicrobials used in this setting?

Levofloxacin is among the safest antibiotics used today. All fluoroquinolones have potential class-related side effects including phototoxicity, central nervous system (CNS) disturbances (headache, seizure), QT prolongation, tendonitis and tendon rupture, gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) and allergic reactions (rash, anaphylaxis). Levofloxacin has been used by millions of patients and has generally been found to be well-tolerated and safe.
