The AUC values, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic breakpoints and AUC/MIC ratios associated with fluoroquinolones against S. pneumoniae are listed. This shows that levofloxacin achieves one of the highest 24-hour AUC among the newer respiratory fluoroquinolones tested and an AUIC ratio which indicates activity against the major pathogens.
