Question 26

A common problem encountered in optimizing antimicrobial therapy is maintaining compliance. Does this regimen provide any benefits in this regard?

The high-dose, short-course therapy has a great potential for improving compliance. An immediate advantage is the fact that this schedule requires only 5 days of therapy, with half the number of tablets required compared with the 500 mg 10-day levofloxacin regimen, and only a quarter the number of tablets required compared with the twice daily, 10-day ciprofloxacin regimens.
