The Role of 750 mg Once-Daily Levofloxacin in the Treatment of Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases

Question 21

In addition to ABECB, in what other clinical situations would you recommend using a high dose (750 mg or greater) of levofloxacin?

The 750 mg dose is recommended for the empiric treatment of patients with CAP and HAP. Since levofloxacin is so safe, it is conceivable that an even higher dose than 750 mg once daily (i.e., 1,000 mg once daily) could achieve even better results. Appropriately designed clinical trials are needed to address this issue.
